Here I am, catching up on blogging, and getting inspiration for the many upcoming maternity sessions I have booked. Now, I am reminded of all the many gorgeous Moms-to-be that I get to photograph! I know recently someone searched “Maternity photographer Chicagoland” and found me, so I am writing a blog about being a maternity photographer in the Chicagoland area. There are so many talented photographers in my area, and I am so blessed and lucky when someone chooses me to capture these memories.
Steps for a successful maternity photo shoot
Now, there are several things that have to align to have a successful maternity session. First, you need a pregnant Mom. But, this Mom can’t be too pregnant. Usually, I photograph maternity sessions around 28-36 weeks gestation. I choose this time, so that you can see the baby bump, but Mom is still comfortable during this time frame. Once you get past the 36 week mark, Mom gets more uncomfortable (and sometimes, babies are born at that 36 week mark). We would hate to book a maternity session and miss out because baby came too early! Second, you need a perfect location set up. Every season lends for gorgeous outdoor maternity photos, but the weather needs to work. A rainy day, or several rainy days before a session creates a mess. Sometimes, it’s too hot, and Mom and Dad are sweating and uncomfortable. Or, in the winter, it can be dangerously too cold. Third, you need everyone to be comfortable in the session. Beforehand, I tell Moms and Dads to dress how they are comfortable. And, I also offer several different color and style maternity gowns for Mom to use at her photo shoot. I want my families to be comfortable, and happy in their photos, and happy with the end result of their photos!
Here are some photos from a session last spring. Mom had her beautiful baby boy a few months later, and I was honored to capture his newborn photos. I will post these on the blog next ! Enjoy this gorgeous pregnancy photo shoot!
