When Should You Book a Chicago Newborn Photographer?

One of the most common questions I receive from expecting parents is, “When should I book my newborn photography session?”

The answer surprises many families: the best time to book your newborn photographer is during your second trimester, or at the beginning of your third trimester.

As a Chicago newborn photographer, I often work with families who begin planning for their baby’s arrival months before their due date. While there are always last-minute openings from time to time, booking early helps ensure availability and allows plenty of time to plan your perfect session.

Why Book Before Your Baby Arrives?

The newborn stage passes incredibly quickly. Tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and those precious curled-up poses change within just a few short weeks.

Most newborn sessions take place within the first two weeks after birth, when babies are sleepiest and most comfortable being gently posed. By reserving your session during pregnancy, your photographer can keep space available around your due date and adjust once baby arrives.

What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?

This is one of the biggest concerns for expecting parents.

When you book a newborn session, your actual session date is typically scheduled after your baby is born. Your due date simply serves as a placeholder on the photographer’s calendar. Once your little one arrives, the session is finalized based on your baby’s birth date and your family’s schedule.

As an experienced Chicago newborn photographer, I understand that babies rarely arrive exactly on schedule and always build flexibility into my calendar.

What Happens During a Newborn Session?

A newborn photography session is designed to be relaxed and baby-led.

Sessions often include:

  • Beautiful portraits of your newborn
  • Family photographs
  • Parent and baby images
  • Sibling photographs
  • A variety of soft, timeless setups

The goal is to create images that preserve these fleeting moments while ensuring your baby remains comfortable and safe throughout the session.

Choosing the Right Newborn Photographer

When selecting a Chicago newborn photographer, look beyond the images alone.

Consider:

  • Experience working with newborns
  • Safety training and posing knowledge
  • A consistent editing style
  • Reviews from past clients
  • Session offerings and products

Your newborn photographs will become treasured family heirlooms, making it important to choose someone whose style and experience align with your vision.

Final Thoughts

Pregnancy is filled with countless decisions, but planning your newborn photography session early can help eliminate stress once your baby arrives.

The first days of your newborn’s life pass in the blink of an eye. By booking ahead, you’ll have peace of mind knowing those precious moments will be beautifully preserved for years to come.

If you’re expecting and searching for a Chicago newborn photographer, now is the perfect time to begin planning your session.

A little life update 🤍

I wanted to share a little personal update since some of you may have noticed that I’ve been a bit slower than usual lately.

I’ve been dealing with a health issue affecting my nerves over the past several weeks. It’s caused quite a bit of pain and has left me more tired than usual. I’m medically cleared to continue working, but I’m still not feeling 100%.

If I seem a little tired or if I take a little longer to respond to an email or get a proof gallery back to you, I just wanted you to know there’s a reason. As a one-woman business, I’m the person behind everything — from your emails and sessions to editing and delivering your galleries. I’m still working away behind the scenes and giving every session and gallery the same care and attention I always do; I may just need a little extra time right now.

I’m working from home today and will be catching up on emails and sending out several proof galleries throughout the day. 🤍

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and kindness while I get back to feeling like myself. It truly means a lot 🫶

And now for some happier news…

Hello Fall Minis are returning!
The vintage truck is coming back, sessions will be held at a farm in Crystal Lake on Saturday, October 3rd. The booking link has been open for a couple of days now, and some of you have already grabbed your spot! There are still four spots available.

Santa is returning!
Santa sessions will be held on Sunday, November 15th and Sunday, November 29th. The booking link isn’t live just yet, but I already have a long VIP list. If you’d like to be notified before the link goes public, send me a message and I’ll add you to the list.

More fall minis?
Depending on how I’m feeling throughout September, I may add another date for regular fall minis in October. I’ll keep you posted!

And lastly, I just want to say how much I appreciate each and every one of you. Some of you have been with me from the very beginning, and so many of you have continued to come back year after year and trust me with your most important memories.

Thank you all for being such a wonderful part of this journey with me
