When you need to find a service provider for most things, the first place you’ll probably look is Google. And search engines are a great way to find newborn photographers too. But there are also other places you can look to expand your search or just make it easier.
One of my favorites? Instagram!
Instagram is heavily used by photographers because it’s set up to put emphasis on photos—and that’s what we do!
This also means that if you’re on the lookout for the perfect person to capture memories of your little one, you’ll want to include this social media platform in your search.
Looking for newborn photographers on Instagram is easy—and fun! There are two main ways to do it: Hashtags and keywords. These are essentially just two different ways of achieving the same thing, which is narrowing down your search to show what you’re looking for.
Hashtags
Hashtags have that funny little sign in front of them (#) and they’re all one word. You can try using a broad search term like #newbornphotography, but you’ll probably get better results if you narrow it down. You can do this by adding a location (#chicagonewbornphotographer), aesthetic (#lifestylenewbornphotography) or other preferences (#chicagonewbornstudio).
Just use the search bar to type in a potential hashtag, and it will bring up that and similar hashtags. From there, you can select one and start exploring!
Keywords
Keywords are separate and don’t have a symbol to differentiate them. Just like with hashtags, you can use the search bar and type in something like “Chicago newborn photography” and it will give you a list of suggestions to look at, including individual photographer’s profiles, relevant hashtags, and locations.
Instagram can be the perfect place to start your search for a photographer, because it gives you a feel for what kinds of photos and styles you like. Click on a few photos that you love and follow them to the photographer’s profile (their name will be at the top, just click on it) and from there you’ll be able to get a better idea of their overall style and whether they would be a good fit for you. You’re almost guaranteed to find a great newborn photographer—just like Sofia’s mom did when she was searching and came across a few of my images.
