I am just in love with sweet baby Ava and the beautiful summer colors we chose for her session! Mom found me on Google when she was searching for a Highland Park newborn photographer here in Illinois. My studio in Long Grove is only half an hour away and she loved my style. I’m so happy she found me!
Choosing colors is always one of the fun parts of a newborn photography session. The gentle browns, whites, and yellows we selected for Ava’s baby pictures are so warm and beautiful together.
But just as fun (and important) as choosing the colors is choosing the textures. People don’t always realize what a difference texture can make to your finished images. As a newborn photographer, I learned a long time ago not to underestimate the importance of textures and layering.
Comfy knits and crochets, as well as brushed waffle textures and faux furs are always a great choice for newborn pictures because they are so soft. And we want baby to be comfortable! However, I also love combining these soft and cozy fabrics with others like lace or netted materials to add extra depth. And I also like to use props like rustic buckets, woven baskets, or flowers and greenery to keep things interesting.
Varying shades and textures are also a great way to add interest to photos with a more limited color scheme. For example, if you love neutrals, it’s a great idea to add several textures in harmonious colors. Here, Ava is dreaming away in a tiny crib. We’ve used only white and brown for our colors, but the different shades and layers make the overall image so pretty!
