Happy birthday, Oliver! These Highland Park cake smash photos were the perfect way to celebrate The Big One for this adorable little man.
It’s been so fun to see this family grow. They found me a couple of years ago and we’ve never looked back. That’s how it often is with my families. We click and it becomes a long-term relationship where I see them back in my studio year after year. I absolutely love that! With this particular family, I photographed Oliver as a newborn and also did their daughter’s one-year milestone photo session with cake smash, so when I heard it was Oliver’s turn I was so excited!
What is a Cake Smash?
Never heard of a cake smash? It’s exactly what it sounds like. These celebratory milestone sessions are held right around baby’s first birthday, and the whole idea is that your little one is given a cake to eat—or smash—while I take all the cute photos! Some parents will schedule their cake smash a couple of months before the actual birthday so they can use the photos for party invites. Others just like the first birthday memories. Either way, it’s always a fun time!
For my cake smashes, the parents bring the cake and I provide everything else here at my studio (or at an outdoor location if that’s what you choose). I do not provide the cake due to safety and liability reasons, but I can provide recommendations if you need a bakery.
This is How We Smash the Cake!
Part of the fun of a cake smash is seeing how baby reacts to having their very own cake. Some kids love it, while others are hesitant. Oliver was definitely in the first group! He had so much fun digging in and getting crumbs and frosting all over himself. I’d say these Highland Park cake smash photos were a big success!
