Recently, little Jordan came to my Chicagoland newborn photography studio at 8 days new. Now, I also photographed his sister as newborn. And, Dad is a big fan of Michael Jordan so the baby is named is after him. So, as a photographer offering Chicagoland newborn photography, this is fun for my studio!
To begin, we started with this new swing prop I recently added to the studio. Here, I am in love with the look of this photograph, and how sweet and snuggly baby looks!Next, with a tribute to Michael Jordan, and safe in daddy’s arms, is sweet baby Jordan. Now, these props were brought in by Jordan’s parents. But, keep in mind, I am flexible to using your props, as we can discuss before your newborn photo shoot. Next, we moved to the bucket pose, with some white tones and the wood tones in the studio. Fortunately, Jordan was such a good, sleepy baby for our entire session. After, we moved to the bean bag pose, for some sleepy newborn photos! Here, I love these types of poses, for just a natural, sleeping baby look. Here, we were so lucky to get a little smile from baby Jordan!Of course, when your dad is a huge Michael Jordan fan, and you have the tiniest pair of Air Jordan shoes, you have to show them! To finish, since Jordan was so comfy and sleepy, we were able to capture this pose with him! These sweet images take me back to where my newborn photography journey began over 14 years ago.
When I first started, posed newborn photography was the style. Every image was carefully planned and thoughtfully created, requiring extensive training, hands-on workshops, and a deep understanding of newborn safety, comfort, and posing techniques. Creating those timeless curled-up poses wasn’t just about taking a photo, it was about learning an art form while always putting baby’s well-being first.
Over the years, newborn photography has evolved. Today, many families are drawn to a more natural, baby-led approach that focuses on genuine connection, movement, and simple moments. I absolutely love incorporating those elements into my sessions as well.
What makes my approach unique is that I continue to offer my signature posed newborn style while blending it with more natural, baby-led moments. This allows me to create a gallery filled with both beautifully crafted portraits and authentic images that reflect your baby’s personality.
While trends may change, there will always be something special about those classic newborn portraits—the ones that highlight just how tiny, precious, and brand new your little one is.
Which style do you love most: timeless posed portraits, natural baby-led moments, or a combination of both?
