I loved creating these Chicago newborn portraits of baby boy Nico! His mom brought him to my Long Grove, Illinois photography studio when he was 13 days new. I was so excited to see him! I photographed his brother, not as a newborn, but for his one-year milestone portraits. And there is nothing I love more than to see families come back to me again and again to capture sweet memories with their children.
You would never know it to look at these images, but little Nico was very alert and awake for most of his photo session. The older babies get, the more wakeful they are. Which is why I recommend bringing infants in for their newborn pictures within the first two weeks of life. Sometimes though, like Nico, even little ones under two weeks can surprise you with how alert they are and how interested they seem to be in their surroundings!
However, I’ve picked up a few tricks in more than a decade of being a newborn photographer—including lots of ways to help babies fall asleep! Somehow or other, I managed to get him to drift off and we were able to get some beautiful Chicago newborn portraits of this little sweet little man.
I love the creams and dark greens we chose for this baby boy’s session. We included a miniature teddy for extra cuteness, and of course I had to bring in some seasonal touches with my cream-colored pumpkins—which went perfectly with our color scheme. Bringing in a little holiday décor is always a fun thing to do for babies born around this time of year.
